Some AFC Leopards players were detained at a Mombasa hotel a month ago over unpaid bills, bringing to discussion the underlying financial constraints gnawing Kenyan Premier League clubs.
Jambo Hotel in Mombasa held the Ingwe players for not paying some bills amounting to Sh170, 000, even after they had won 2-1 against Bandari.
The players were frustrated to the core; “None of the team members can leave the hotel, the security guards here are really harassing us. This is really frustrating,” one of the players told the press.
AFC Leopards – a club commanding a huge following – reportedly borrowed money to set free its players.
