Steven Gerrard has endured a bit of a difficult season amid criticism of his Liverpool performances this term, but a new statistic shows the midfielder remains on par with his English compatriots Wayne Rooney and Daniel Sturridge in 2014.
A stat produced by Sky Sports shows that Gerrard has scored just as many goals in the Premier League as his Liverpool team-mate and the Manchester United captain this year – with 13 strikes to his name.
The statistic makes Gerrard the joint-highest English goalscorer in the league in 2014, even though many of the 34-year-old’s goals have come from the penalty spot.
Despite this, Gerrard has shown he can still score from open play – after netting his first goal from open play since February 2013 in Liverpool’s 3-1 win away to Leicester City this week.
