Everybody craves for a great smile. We all want to showcase a sparkling white teeth that ignites the crowd whenever they see it. But our everyday lives hinder such displays. There are several things that play a part, including genetics, the type of food and drink we eat, and how well we practice our oral hygiene.
A tooth is made up of 4 tissues-enamel, which is the strong white covering that protects the tooth, dentin, which supports the enamel and is a hard yellow material that carries nerves, pulp, which is at the center of the tooth and contains blood and lymph vessels, and cementum, which covers the root of the tooth. As we age the acids from the foods we eat tend to dissolve the enamel thus making the underlining yellow dentin more pronounced.
There are different ways we can whiten our teeth. Most people visit their dentist that carry out various processes that often very expensive. I am here to share with you some of the things I found out while researching.
These are things you can do by yourself in the comfort of your home. These remedies will not give you pure white teeth like a new born baby
but you will be happy with the results you get.
Ways To Whiten Your Teeth
1. Good oral hygiene
I know most of us know that this is important but I need to re-emphasize it because it is a must-do if you are to achieve whitening your teeth. Brush your teeth twice daily and keep away from sugary foods. Brushing and flossing play a huge (the hugest) role in keeping teeth clean and white. Make sure you rinse with water after eating.
2. Eat crunchy foods
I know it sounds ridiculous but when you look at my explanations above you will understand the importance. Foods that stick tends to produce acid that destroys our enamel. Try and eat an apple a day, they are known to have malic acid which is an ingredient for teeth whiteners. Vegetables such as cucumber and carrot helps to keep the stains away from our teeth.
3. Avoid dark drinks
Dark drinks such as coke, coffee and red wine tend to stain our teeth when we take them. We will do ourselves a whole lot of good if we can stay away from them
4. Baking soda
This has been used for centuries as teeth whiteners. They do not only whiten the teeth they also clean it very well. Just make a paste out of it by adding water and some salt. You can then brush your teeth like you normally do. Make sure you rinse your teeth immediately because the baking powder is acidic. You can also add lemon juice to the mixture.
