A ghost hunter has stabbed himself in the chest during an overnight investigation at a house where six children and two adults were murdered with an axe in 1912.
Robert Laursen, 37, was taken to hospital after turning the knife on himself shortly before 1am on Friday at the Villisca Ax Murder House, a tourist attraction in Villisca, Iowa.
He was initially taken to a local hospital and then flown to Creighton Medical Center for more substantial treatment to the injury.
It is believed that Laursen was carrying out a paranormal investigation along with two companions at the time of the shocking incident, but Iowa police has said that there was no indications of fair play and no criminal charges will be bought in the incident.
The house is known in the area as a tourist attraction, having been reverted to its 1912 appearance with no plumbing or electric lighting.
