Arsenal qualified for their 17th straight Champions League group stage despite Mathieu Debuchy’s second-half red card at the Emirates stadium on Wednesday.
The Gunners had taken the lead on the stroke of half-time when summer signing, Alexis Sanchez, finished off a quick move between Jack Wilshere and Mesut Ozil despite the visitors being denied a penalty for Jack Wilshere’s lunge on Ramon Motta.
Arsenal had further chances to extend their advantage in the second period through Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain but the 21-year-old saw his point-blank effort saved by the Besiktas goalkeeper.

Gunners fans were then left to sweat it out for the final 15 minutes of the match when Debuchy – who had been earlier criticised on Twitter for his new haircut – was sent off for a second bookable offence following his seemingly good challenge on Mustafa Pektemek.
