The 2014 edition of the Masaku Sevens rugby tournament will be held on the weekend of 27 th to 29th June at the refurbished Machakos Kenyatta Stadium.
The tournament that for the past years has been used as a warm to the national rugby sevens series has grown in stature attracting thousands of fans with this year’s event expected to be bigger and better.
The tournament was officially launched on Thursday with organizers announcing that this year’s edition will also be held under floodlights at the Kenyatta stadium.
With only three days to go before the annual Masaku 7s rugby tournament and entertainment festival kicks off, hotel rooms have sold out in the Eastern town and fun-lovers are now seeking for alternative accommodation in the outskirts of the main town.
Hoteliers are making a kill by doubling prizes as the Masaku 7s fever hits an all-time high. “Most of the fans who have done advance room bookings are from Nairobi, Nakuru and Mombasa. Our rooms sold out three weeks ago,” said one of the hoteliers.
Besides attracting international teams, the showbiz phenomenal has drawn in top entertainment units, deejay outfits and musicians who will be hosting a variety of concerts in different venues with the biggest thrills expected to take place at the Masaku 7’s rugby dome.
